Death Cab for Cutie is an American indie rock and indie pop band from Bellingham, Washington, founded in 1997 by singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard. They broke through critically with Transatlanticism (2003) and reached a wide audience with Plans (2005), which went platinum and earned the band their first Grammy nominations. Across eleven studio albums, their reputation for melancholic, literary songwriting has made them one of the most enduring acts in indie rock.
