David Eugene Edwards (born February 24, 1968, Englewood, Colorado) is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a career spanning more than three decades. He first gained recognition as the frontman of 16 Horsepower, a gothic-country band that fused Appalachian folk and country with stark Biblical imagery, then continued under the Wovenhand banner, pushing his sound into darker, more experimental territory. His instruments range from banjo and hurdy-gurdy to lap steel and concertina, all anchored by a commanding baritone voice. His grandfather was a preacher, and that upbringing runs through every record he has made.
16 Horsepower performed live for the first time in more than twenty years: the European reunion tour in May-June 2026 was largely sold out, including the shows in Amsterdam (Paradiso), Nijmegen (Doornroosje) and Groningen (De Oosterpoort).
On 22 May 2026, Edwards released his second solo album Mercurial Silence via Sargent House, a follow-up to his debut Hyacinth from 2023 with more electronic production and layered textures.
In April 2026, Edwards announced his solo album Mercurial Silence, with 'Uraeus' as the first single.
In December 2025, the reunion of 16 Horsepower was officially announced: the original three members Edwards, Jean-Yves Tola and Pascal Humbert, supplemented by Wovenhand guitarist Chuck French.
Edwards tours through Europe again in November 2026 in support of Mercurial Silence.
