Catherine Deneuve (born 22 October 1943 in Paris) is a French actress widely regarded as one of the defining icons of European cinema. She rose to international prominence with Jacques Demy's musical Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (1964) and went on to collaborate with directors including Luis Buñuel, Roman Polanski and François Truffaut. A two-time César Award winner - for Le Dernier Métro (1980) and Indochine (1992) - she also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for Indochine, with a career spanning more than six decades.
Deneuve was present at the Cannes Film Festival 2026 with two films in the selection: Histoires Parallèles by Asghar Farhadi (in competition) and Gentle Monster by Marie Kreutzer.
Histoires Parallèles premiered on 14 May 2026 in the official competition at Cannes and was released simultaneously in French cinemas.
Deneuve co-wrote the book Marilyn chérie, a 224-page tribute to Marilyn Monroe on the occasion of her hundredth birthday.
Deneuve received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 71st Taormina Film Festival in Sicily, where she also presented her latest film Spirit World by director Erik Khoo.
The filming of Histoires Parallèles by Asghar Farhadi began on 8 September 2025 in Paris, with Deneuve and Isabelle Huppert as the first actors in front of the camera.
