The Noord caves of the Sint-Pietersberg are part of a vast network of more than 20,000 passages carved into the soft marl rock of the hill just south of Maastricht. Marl was quarried here for centuries as a building material, and the tunnels also served as shelter during wartime. Guided tours take visitors past historical inscriptions, drawings and other traces left by generations of users.
