Amsterdam Centraal is the largest and busiest railway station in the Netherlands, designed by Pierre Cuypers and opened in 1889. The neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance building sits on an artificial island in the IJ and is one of the city's most recognisable landmarks. As well as trains, it serves metro and bus lines, and ferries to Amsterdam-Noord depart from the rear.
