Aqueerius - Beyond The Ball

Welcome to the 1680s - the pink revolution of French Baroque. All night we dance at the court of Louis XIV, but the Sun King plays only a supporting role. The spotlight belongs to Julie d'Aubigny, better known as Madame de Maupin.

Opera diva, duelist, and rebel. This queen of coloraturas fights with voice and sword against the suffocating social norms and class hierarchies of her time, winning the hearts of men and women alike. A queer icon avant la lettre who claims her rightful place in history - based on a true story.

Press reviews:
"A campy mini-musical with the potential to become a summer festival hit" - de Volkskrant ★★★★
"Beyond the Ball is feel-good: the songs are danceable, the performers radiate joy in their roles, and the text is full of winks to the musical genre, queer culture, and history. Yet Aqueerius also manages to build a critical bridge to contemporary issues." - Theaterkrant
"Aqueerius creates brilliantly clever music theatre, is highly original and hilarious." - Scenes ★★★★
