Jip Smit - Motherland: The Return Of Katinka — De Stadsgehoorzaal, Vlaardingen
Description was written before the event

"The sun slowly sinks behind the rocks, casting the water in a deep pink glow. It is held together by a great bowl of hard stone. The Pool of Mitra."

In the world of Motherland, a curse reigns: men live eighty years, women only three days - born to bear children and then to die. When Katinka is born, things are different. She does not age rapidly, does not become an old woman on day three, but has the lifespan of a man and is destined to break the ancient curse.

In The Return of Katinka, she returns to her motherland, The Islands of Treis Méres. In a vision, her mother has commanded her to place a magical stone back in the Pool of Mitra. But when the king offers to crown her queen in exchange for that stone, she must ask herself whether she can resist the temptation - and how much the individual is willing to sacrifice for the greater good.

This is the third and final part of theatre maker Jip Smit's trilogy, following Motherland (winner of the Best of Fringe Award 2020) and Motherland II Katinka Strikes Back. Before the performance, you will be humorously brought up to speed on everything that happened before, so it is not necessary to have seen parts one or two.
