Marjolijn van Kooten — Theater De Liefde, Haarlem

Marjolijn van Kooten has built a distinctive place for herself in Dutch theatre with her sold-out shows about panic, worry and pills. Her dry-witted cabaret, full of self-mockery, has earned her a loyal following.

In this new production, she poses a question everyone knows but rarely asks aloud: why do we wait until someone falls ill or dies before we appreciate life? Must people die before we feel truly alive? Van Kooten answers with dark humour, tender songs and unabashed stories. The production is directed by Anne van Rijn.

Audience members from her previous show 'Hoe vind je het zelf gaan?' had this to say: "I hate cabaret but what Marjolijn does is brilliant", "She touches the right nerve" and "Better than therapy!" Dagblad vh Noorden wrote: "Van Kooten displays neither glamour nor pretension. She radiates the power, flair, intonation and ambition of a theatre artist with thoughtful perspective. A delightful performer."
