JÁTÉK-BOX

JÁTÉK-BOX is an interactive performance created by Sketch 351 to celebrate György Kurtág's 100th birthday. The work draws on Játékok, his collection of miniatures for solo piano - "games" in Hungarian - and places the playful character at its heart: the audience randomly determines which piece is played, can interrupt the musicians, and alter the pieces during performance.

Twenty solo piano pieces have been specially arranged for Sketch 351, an ensemble of piano, percussion, flute, trombone, and cello. Artist Monika Nowak designed and built an installation that makes the playful spirit of the music visible beyond the stage.
