Writer Alma Mathijsen joins musicians Oene van Geel and Remco Menting for an evening exploring imagination and experimentation. The texts emerge from the novel Mathijsen is currently completing - a try-out that promises to be delightfully unruly.

Mathijsen performs the spoken word; Van Geel plays 5-string violin and trombone, Menting drums and vibraphone.

About: Alma Mathijsen

This Amsterdam-born novelist writes about loss and identity, but also takes the stage as a spoken word performer who blends text with music. Her 2024 novel Onderland grew out of collaboration with nine fellow survivors of sexual violence.

About: Oene van Geel

This Dutch violist and composer moves fluidly between jazz, chamber music and free improvisation, and has toured Europe, India, Japan, the United States and Canada. A fixture at Splendor Amsterdam, he has built an extensive body of work ranging from the string quartet Zapp4 to his own solo projects.
