Roman Traces in Doesburg and the Liemers
Thu, 12 Nov 2026 · 20:00 — 22:30
Around the beginning of our era, the Roman army established a series of forts along the Rhine - the castella now known as the Lower Germanic Limes. In western Netherlands, their remains are often well preserved, but further east the story is different.
Wil Kuijpers shows in his lecture how he collects finds, what such research looks like, and what the results teach us. He does this using archaeological sites in Duiven-Loowaard and Spijk. Additionally, he shares his experiences from the excavation of the Roman temple complex in Herwen-Hemeling in 2022.
