Heerenhuis Chamber Concert - Paper Songs
Heerenhuys, Dudok in het Park, Rotterdam
Paper Songs is a collective of four musician friends who drew inspiration from American poet Walt Whitman's poetry to create new compositions. These will appear on their debut album in spring 2027. Though Whitman's work dates from the 19th century, the ensemble demonstrates that his themes and language remain strikingly relevant today.
Blending influences from jazz, pop, soul and folk, the quartet sets Whitman's texts to music, exploring nature, humanity and democratic society. Singer and composer Vita Pagie introduced Whitman to the rest of the band: "His poetry often describes exactly how I feel and experience things. Very much in the moment, through my senses. I love finding connections between music and other art forms, so compositions naturally emerged that we worked out and arranged together as a collective."
Line-up:
Vita Pagie - vocals, compositions
Jochem Braat - piano
Caroline Kamp - double bass
Robin van Rhijn - drums
The Heerenhuis Chamber Concerts are part of the Park's programming in Rotterdam.
