Joshua Idehen

Joshua Idehen describes his own music as "danceable hope". This poet, philosopher and songwriter harnesses the power of the club to spread a universal message: one of love, without ever sounding preachy.

With dry humour and poetic wit, he takes aim at racism and grim ideologies. His viral single Mum Does The Washing explains all political currents through a single example: a mother doing the laundry.

His music is neither spoken word nor pure dance, but something in between - raw reality knocking on your front door to the rhythm of a house beat. This made him the sensation at ESNS and he performed at Glastonbury last year. Together with his Swedish longtime friend Ludvig Parment, he wrote his debut album I Know You're Hurting, Everyone Is Hurting, Everyone Is Trying, You Have Got To Try. On 18 November he brings these urgent club bangers to De Helling in Utrecht.
