Sofia's Trip
Sofia's Trip is a production by Lonelinoise in which bassoonist Thomas Dulfer places the work of Sofia Gubaidulina at the centre. He drew this repertoire from the classical concert hall and built a continuous musical narrative around it together with composer Soheil Shayesteh.
Gubaidulina's pieces - earthy, physical and confrontational in character - alternate with three new compositions by Shayesteh, who draws from trance, electronics, folk music and Western contemporary composition. Shayesteh plays kamancheh, Dulfer also plays duduk. While Gubaidulina's music remains anchored in the concrete and raw, Shayesteh's work lifts the sound towards something transcendent.
The programme consists of the following works:
Duo Sonata - Sofia Gubaidulina - 13' - 2 bassoons
Pendār I - Soheil Shayesteh - 5' - kamancheh, electronics, strings [0.0.0.4.3]
