Winnie Teschmacher Exhibition

From 21 February to 30 August 2026, Museum Vlaardingen presents the retrospective exhibition 'Winnie Teschmacher - Light in Time'. The focus is on the work of Vlaardingen-based visual artist Winnie Teschmacher (born 1958), who has been working with glass since the early 1980s. She began as a lamp glass blower and learned her craft from master craftspeople in the Netherlands and abroad, then developed her own technique in which she blows, bends and grinds glass into autonomous sculptures. Her inspiration comes from nature and travel.

Teschmacher has previously exhibited in museums such as Boijmans van Beuningen, Singer Laren and the Frans Hals Museum, as well as in galleries abroad. Her sculptures are not representations, but independent forms that emerge from an interaction between artist, material and light. Art critic Frits de Coninck wrote about her work: 'They give form to light. They make each other visible: the light through the glass and the glass through the light.' A well-known example is See Through, two monumental glass bowls that have been part of the Museum Vlaardingen collection since 2015.

For this exhibition, Teschmacher herself made a selection from her body of work, paying attention to both highlights and her ongoing exploration in the creative process. A video portrait made especially for the exhibition provides more insight into her working methods and inspiration.

The opening takes place on Saturday, 21 February from 14:00 to 17:00 at the museum at Westhavenkade 54 in Vlaardingen. After that, the exhibition can be visited during regular opening hours.
