New Wave Generation

On 31 October 2026, Poppodium De Pit opens its doors for New Wave Generation, a dance night where the DJ plays tracks by Depeche Mode, Blondie, Talking Heads, New Order, Fisher Z, Human League, Joy Division, Duran Duran, Yazoo and more.

New wave is hard to pin down in a single word, but fans recognize the sound instantly. The genre shares its roots with punk and gained an increasingly electronic character with the rise of the synthesizer - dark, compelling, sometimes flamboyant. Influences from post-punk and synthpop gave it a broad musical range, and it became the sound of the 1980s.

The movement left its mark beyond the dance floor too: in the fashion sense of fans (often black, with short and wild hair), and in art and film, where atmosphere and visual aesthetics played a major role.
