Yoran Vroom's Group of Friends
Group of Friends is the collective of drummer and composer Yoràn Vroom, rooted in Afro-diasporic traditions and drawing on jazz and improvisation. Original compositions form the foundation for concerts that invite both attentive listening and movement.
After collaborations with Frank McComb, Ed Motta, Snarky Puppy, Candy Dulfer and Benjamin Herman, Vroom has focused entirely on his own music since 2021. With the new live programme Teller of Tales: The State of Us, the band draws from the novel Ségou by Maryse Condé - a story about generations, migration and the African diaspora - weaving together Afro-diasporic traditions, jazz and improvisation into a musical whole full of rhythm and groove.
"Vroom is one of the most versatile jazz drummers of the moment. He masters the blend of kaseko, jazz and West African rhythms perfectly." - NRC
