Maria Mendes Quartet

Singer and Edison Award winner Maria Mendes blends her Portuguese musical roots with contemporary jazz - an approach that earned her praise from Quincy Jones and Hermeto Pascoal, and a collaboration with the Metropole Orkest. Tonight she takes the stage with her quartet, performing songs from Todas, her fifth studio album, due out early next year.

A milestone in her career was the live album Saudade, Colour of Love (2022), recorded with the Metropole Orkest and hailed by various international jazz publications as the best jazz album of that year. That same year, Wayne Shorter personally blessed her to contribute to the German premiere of his orchestral work Gaia. This experience forms the creative foundation for Todas, in which Mendes draws from jazz, electronic textures and poetic lyrics.
