Nizar Rohana Trio
Palestinian ud player Nizar Rohana presents his renewed trio with bassist Tony Overwater and percussionist Ruven Ruppik. The musicians move freely between jazz and Middle Eastern music - ideal partners for Rohana, whose work is rooted in Arabic and Middle Eastern traditions while embracing contemporary rhythms, melodies and harmonies.
In Rohana's compositions, the ud and double bass circle each other as melodic voices while percussion adds colour, texture and dynamics. The trio draws from diverse influences: Bach and Miles Davis to Paco de Lucía and Muhammad Abdel Wahab.
Rohana has lived in the Netherlands since 2013 and is regarded as one of the country's leading ud players. Overwater has collaborated with Yuri Honing, Kayhan Kalhor and Rima Khcheich; Ruppik has shared the stage with Aynur, Jorge Pardo, Nai Barghouti and Omar Bashir.
In collaboration with Ud Festival.
