Cesar: The Story of a Drummer

Cesar: The Story of a Drummer is the biography of Cesar Zuiderwijk, drummer of Golden Earring. In a college tour, Zuiderwijk and writer/music journalist Jean-Paul Heck bring the book to life together: an evening of spoken word, anecdotes, intimate moments and a touch of drum power. The audience is not a passive observer - asking questions or sharing your own story about Cesar or Golden Earring is very much part of the experience.

The evening spans the complete story: the major successes, the difficult moments, Cesar's solo work, Labyrinth, Sloper and the abrupt end of Golden Earring in 2021 due to guitarist George Kooymans' illness.

Cesar Zuiderwijk joined Golden Earring in 1970. Alongside his work with the band, he launched the musical project Labyrinth in the 1980s and opened his own drum school. In 1992 he organized a performance of 1000 drummers on the Maas in Rotterdam; in 2018 he brought 2000 drummers to the beach at Scheveningen for Live On The Beach. Today he is active with the band Sloper and as a jury member of the television programme The Tribute: Battle of the Bands.

Jean-Paul Heck has been a music journalist for over 35 years at publications including De Telegraaf, OOR and HUMO, and editor-in-chief of Classic Rock Magazine. He previously published the books Fuck You Very Much, Soundz and Crazy Rock & Roll Stories, interviewed artists such as David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Keith Richards and Bruno Mars, and won the Jip Golsteijn Journalism Prize. He also plays drums in the Queen tribute band Crazy Little Things.
