Peter Bernstein Quartet (US)

Peter Bernstein has been a fixture on the New York jazz scene since the late 1980s, collaborating with musicians such as Sonny Rollins, Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride and Diana Krall. Guitar legend Jim Hall once called him 'the most impressive guitarist I have ever heard'. The New York Times described his playing as: 'Few guitarists put as much care, sensitivity and subtle strength into every single note as Bernstein does. Among the finest melodists in jazz, he has a full-breadth command of his instrument, but his biggest assets are his knack for crisp understatement and simplicity.'

Tonight he performs at Paradox with an American quartet. Pianist Sullivan Fortner, who grew up in New Orleans, blends swing, blues and stride with a contemporary sound. Brad Mehldau said of him: 'He is quietly reforming jazz piano - no, piano playing itself.' Fortner has previously played with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Christian Scott and Roy Hargrove. The quartet is completed by bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Kush Abadey.
