Most teenagers spend the summer before turning eighteen with friends, parties, and pushing boundaries. Not Ivy. Her loving but overprotective parents send her to Children Run Free Camp for four weeks, a summer camp for young people living with the effects of cancer.

After one look at the promotional video full of sunsets and cheap crossfades, Ivy is done: as if cancer wasn't bad enough. Yet the camp turns out to be surprisingly different from what she expected. She meets a group of young people who, like her, want to get everything out of life - snorting prescribed pills, drinking vodka, skinny-dipping, and maybe even falling in love.
