The environmental dimension of war

War destroys more than buildings - it undermines what makes life possible: the air, the bread, and the land that produces it. This programme brings together three documentaries that explore the environmental dimension of Russia's war in Ukraine, from poisoned air and water to landmines in agricultural soil and communities struggling to sustain daily life.

The three films examine the question of Russian ecocide in Ukraine, both environmental pollution and the destruction of agricultural infrastructure:

1. The Mykolaiv Bread Factory - a portrait of a bakery worker who supplies a besieged city with bread day after day. Directed by Olha Zhurba.
2. Kherson. Breathe Slowly - explores the environmental consequences of bombardment. Directed by Kateryna Murovana.
3. Bread from a Minefield - documents the destruction of the agricultural sector. Produced by Vgoru Media.

Following the screenings, an open discussion will address the long-term consequences of war ecocide for life in affected communities.
