Via Crucis is a late work by Franz Liszt, composed around 1879. Its fourteen stations trace the Way of the Cross with striking restraint - bare harmonies and sparse textures that sound remarkably modern even today. Long considered too unconventional for its time, it remains one of Liszt's most rarely performed pieces.
