About

Tony Malaby (born January 12, 1964, in Tucson, Arizona) is an American tenor and soprano saxophonist who has been based in New York City since the mid-1990s. He built his reputation as a sideman with Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra and Paul Motian's Electric Bebop Band, and became a central figure in New York's downtown improvised music scene. As a bandleader he runs several distinct projects - from the Tamarindo trio to the unconventional Tubacello quartet - and holds a position as Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
