Night of the Violin
Festival at TivoliVredenburg celebrating the violin across jazz, pop, folk, gypsy and electronic music, culminating in a large Mash-Up led by violinist Tim Kliphuis.
Tim Kliphuis (born 1974 in Utrecht) is a Dutch violinist who trained classically at the Amsterdam Conservatoire before immersing himself in gypsy jazz through study with the European Sinti community and collaborations with guitar legends Fapy Lafertin and The Rosenberg Trio. He has built a distinctive style that moves freely between gypsy jazz, classical and folk, performing at venues from the Concertgebouw to Celtic Connections festivals worldwide. A Sony Classical recording artist and multiple award winner, he has in recent years turned to large-scale orchestral composition addressing climate change.
The album 'Rhapsody in Blue' (Lowland Records) by the Tim Kliphuis Trio was released in 2026 and was positively received by the international jazz press.
The Tim Kliphuis Trio went on a European premiere tour in June 2026 with a new trio arrangement of Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue', on the occasion of the ensemble's twentieth anniversary.
Kliphuis and guitarist Jimmy Grant performed in the US in February 2026 as part of a gypsy-jazz duo tour.
The climate album 'Kosmos' - recorded with cellist Maya Fridman and pianist Marc Van Roon - was released in December 2025 via the label TRPTK.
The orchestral work 'Kosmos' premiered on 1 June 2024 at the Oranjewoud Festival in Friesland, with seventeen young professional musicians and marine biologist Katja Peijnenburg on stage.
