The Tangent (UK)
British progressive rock band The Tangent, fronted by keyboardist Andy Tillison, delivers dynamic live shows combining ambitious compositions with jazz and electronic elements.
The Tangent is a British progressive rock band from Northern England, founded in 2002 by keyboardist, composer and vocalist Andy Tillison. Their music blends prog, jazz, electronics and a streak of punk into long-form conceptual albums with a distinctly political edge - deliberately avoiding the fantasy tropes common to the genre. With fourteen studio albums released through InsideOut/Sony and latterly White Knight Records, the band is one of the most prolific and outspoken acts in 21st-century prog.
The Tangent releases their fourteenth studio album 'Was - A Nostalgia' on October 2, 2026 via White Knight Records, a double CD with the complete five-piece lineup including bassist John Jowitt.
The British magazine Prog published an article about 'Was' in September 2026, in which Tillison explains the influence of World War II on contemporary culture as the central theme of the album.
In early 2026, the band announced that the new album was in the final stages of mixing and that it would be their first recording for White Knight Records.
In May 2024, 'To Follow Polaris', the thirteenth studio album by The Tangent, was released, entirely recorded by Andy Tillison alone and released via InsideOut/Sony.
Andy Tillison was named 'Keyboards Player of the Year' by the British PROG Magazine in 2018.
