Swell
Swell, the legendary American indie-rock band, plays a one-off concert to honour founder David Freel. With support from Creatures of Loss.
Swell is an American indie rock band formed in San Francisco in 1989 by vocalist/guitarist David Freel and drummer Sean Kirkpatrick. Weaving together post-punk, folk and cinematic textures inspired by Ennio Morricone, the band built a devoted cult following in the 1990s through albums such as '...Well?' and '41' and an early John Peel session. After Freel's death on 12 April 2022, the surviving original members reunited for tribute tours across Europe and the US, performing songs from the band's first four albums.
The album '41' was released on May 24, 2024 as a remastered 30th anniversary re-release on vinyl via the French label Talitres, with a gatefold cover and a twelve-page booklet.
After the European tribute tour in April 2023, the members also played four shows on the American west coast in December 2023, in memory of David Freel.
The original members toured fourteen nights through Europe in April 2023 under the name 'Everyday Sunshine: Tribute to David Freel 1958-2022', with songs from the first four albums.
Founder and frontman David Freel died on April 12, 2022 in Oregon City at the age of 64.
