SHINING (Norway)
Norwegian metal band Shining delivers their signature 'blackjazz' - a collision of avant-garde metal, electronics and virtuoso saxophone - at dB's in Utrecht.
Shining (also known as SHINING NOR) is a Norwegian experimental band from Oslo, founded in 1999 by Jørgen Munkeby - the group's vocalist, guitarist, saxophonist and only constant member across its entire history. Starting out as an acoustic jazz quartet, the band evolved into the self-proclaimed pioneers of 'blackjazz', a collision of free jazz, industrial metal and progressive extremity. The landmark album Blackjazz (2010) cemented that identity, and nine studio albums later Shining remain one of heavy music's most singular live acts.
Shining released the new single 'North', recorded and mixed in their own studio, with a music video filmed in the Norwegian mountains.
The day after the release of 'North', Shining performed a full Blackjazz set at the Bloodstock Open Air festival in Derbyshire, UK.
Shining is working on a new studio album; further details have not yet been announced.
Shining performed an anniversary show of the Blackjazz album for 15,000 visitors at Hellfest in France.
