Shantel & Bucovina Club Soundsystem
Shantel & Bucovina Club Soundsystem bring their Balkan-inspired electronic sound to Nijmegen's Doornroosje venue.
Shantel is the stage name of Stefan Hantel (born 2 March 1968 in Mannheim), a German DJ, producer and musician based in Frankfurt. Drawing on his Bukovina German, Greek and Ukrainian-Jewish heritage, he built the Bucovina Club concept in the early 2000s by electronically remixing Romani brass orchestras and Balkan folk music into club-ready dance tracks. His compilations and the album 'Disko Partizani' (2007) brought him international recognition, including the Club Global Award at the 2006 BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music.
