Ronin is the band of Swiss pianist Nik Bärtsch, formed in 2001 after a stay in Japan. Their music - which Bärtsch calls "zen-funk" or "ritual groove music" - weaves together jazz, minimal music and Japanese ritual sounds into tightly looping, groove-driven pieces called modules. The group has released several albums on ECM Records.
