
Ralph van Raat - 'The Planets'
Ralph van Raat presents an evening programme exploring The Planets through works by Froukje Verhagen, Gustav Holst, and a new composition of his own.
Ralph van Raat (born 1978, Naarden) is a Dutch pianist and musicologist who has devoted his career almost entirely to contemporary classical music. He graduated with honours from both the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam, and studied further with Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Ursula Oppens. Since 2006 he has held an exclusive recording contract with Naxos International, producing multiple bestselling albums including the complete piano works of John Adams, Louis Andriessen and Arvo Pärt. Alongside his performing career he teaches contemporary piano at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo in Turin.
Naxos releases Van Raats new CD with piano works by Pierre Boulez, including two important early, previously unpublished compositions.
