Nik Bärtsch is a Swiss pianist and composer who describes his own style as "zen-funk" or "ritual groove music". After a stay in Japan he founded the band Ronin in 2001, releasing several albums on ECM Records. His music weaves together jazz, minimal music and Japanese ritual sounds into hypnotic, groove-driven compositions built up from short repeating phrases.
