Maarten Hogenhuis' BLOOM
Jazz saxophonist Maarten Hogenhuis presents BLOOM, a residency concert blending jazz, ambient and groove with drummer Simon Segers and vocalist Nana Adjoa.
Nana Adjoa (Amsterdam, 1991) is a Dutch-Ghanaian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who grew up in Amsterdam's Bijlmer district and later in Het Gooi. She studied bass guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and came to wider attention as a finalist in De Grote Prijs van Nederland. Her debut album 'Big Dreaming Ants' (2020, Bloomer Records), on which she played nearly all instruments herself, earned her the Volkskrant Pop Talent of the Year title. Her sound draws on melancholic indie, trip-hop, jazz and Ghanaian highlife.
Nana Adjoa performed at the Gaudeamus Festival 2025 in Utrecht, together with Cello Octet Amsterdam, and presented for the first time new, unreleased material from her third album, which was largely recorded in Los Angeles.
The Gaudeamus Festival announced Nana Adjoa as one of the highlights of the 2025 edition, where she performed special new arrangements of her repertoire with the Cello Octet at TivoliVredenburg.
Nana Adjoa released a live album, recorded during concerts in 2021 at venues including the Concertgebouw and Rotown.
