Michael Mayer (born 1971 in the Black Forest) is a German DJ, producer and remixer who has been at the core of Cologne's Kompakt record label since the 1990s. After moving to Cologne at 20, he co-founded Kompakt with Wolfgang and Reinhard Voigt, becoming a driving force behind the so-called Cologne sound of minimal, melodic techno and house. His mix compilation Immer (2004) is regarded as one of the genre-defining minimal-house mixes, and alongside his DJ career he has released solo albums such as Touch (2004), Mantasy (2012) and, after a long gap, The Floor Is Lava (2024).
Michael Mayer released his fourth solo album The Floor Is Lava on November 1, 2024, his first solo album since Mantasy from 2012.
In autumn 2025, a remix EP of The Floor Is Lava followed, with contributions from Raxon and Sebastian Mullaert, among others.
Michael Mayer is booked for 2026 in Amsterdam and on October 31 at the Muziekgieterij in Maastricht, among other places.
