Los Pirañas are a Colombian instrumental supergroup formed by Eblis Álvarez (Meridian Brothers), Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero) and Pedro Ojeda (Romperayo), three musicians who have known each other since their teenage years in Bogotá. They fuse cumbia, champeta, Peruvian chicha and vallenato with avant-psych rock and dub-inflected improvisation, making them one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Colombian underground music. Since their debut in 2010 they have released albums on Glitterbeat Records and performed at major festivals including Roskilde and Best Kept Secret.
Los Pirañas released their latest album 'Una Oportunidad más de triunfar en la vida' on March 7, 2025 via Glitterbeat Records, followed by a European and American tour.
The album was improvised live in the studio, with each member contributing to the composition - an approach that critics described as a masterclass in spontaneous collective composition.
