MixMonk
MixMonk, a trio of drummer Joey Baron, saxophonist Robin Verheyen and pianist Bram De Looze, plays works by Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane alongside their own compositions.
Joey Baron (born 1955 in Richmond, Virginia) is an American jazz drummer who taught himself to play as a child and was performing professionally by his early teens. After years as a sought-after sideman with Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, and Chet Baker, he became a central figure in New York's avant-garde scene through John Zorn's Naked City and the Masada quartet. His trio MixMonk, with saxophonist Robin Verheyen and pianist Bram De Looze, has spent years exploring the music of Thelonious Monk and other jazz icons.
MixMonk performs in May 2026 at the Bird's Eye in Basel, completely acoustic and without amplification.
MixMonk announces the new album MiXMONK Supreme, a tribute to John Coltrane on the occasion of his hundredth birthday, with new compositions alongside work by both Monk and Coltrane.
MixMonk released a live recording from the Brussels Jazz Festival (Edition X Flagey 2025).
MixMonk released the second album 'On the Loose', with eleven tracks and again critically acclaimed.
The debut album MiXMONK by Baron, De Looze and Verheyen was released via Universal Music Belgium.
