Jang Young Gyu (born 1968) is a South Korean composer, bassist and bandleader, best known as the founder and creative force behind Leenalchi. His career spans prestigious film scores - including Train to Busan, The Wailing and several collaborations with director Park Chan-wook - alongside a long engagement with pansori that began in 2007 and ran through the groups BIBING and SsingSsing before culminating in Leenalchi, which he founded in 2019. The band's debut album Sugungga took three prizes at the 18th Korean Music Awards, including Musician of the Year.
Leenalchi released the EP Here Comes That Crow on June 12, 2026 via Luaka Bop, their international debut with the label.
Leenalchi's first globally released full album, SUGUNGGA, comes out on October 2, 2026 via Luaka Bop.
Leenalchi is scheduled for a European tour in November 2026, with a performance at Vera in Groningen.
Leenalchi released their second studio album 흥보가 (Heungboga) in November 2025, based on the eponymous pansori tradition.
Leenalchi made their first North American tour in April 2026, performing as an opening act for Japanese Breakfast at the Stern Grove Festival in San Francisco.
