But Whatever Happens, Music Sounds
Olga Zuiderhoek and Gerard Bouwhuis present an intimate total theatre about 20th-century music, with piano, text and video. A performance full of humour and melancholy, not suitable for children.
Gerard Bouwhuis (born 1954 in Castricum) is a Dutch pianist who has specialised in contemporary music for decades. He studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague under Geoffrey Douglas Madge and performed with influential ensembles such as the Xenakis Ensemble, Hoketus and LOOS. Composers including Louis Andriessen, Guus Janssen and Cornelis de Bondt wrote works especially for him, and in 2003 he received the Theo Bruins Prize for his contribution to Dutch contemporary music. Besides his long-running Pianoduo with Cees van Zeeland, he co-founded the ensemble Nieuw Amsterdams Peil with violinist Heleen Hulst in 2005.
Bouwhuis performs at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam at the concert 'Goede Maten', a tribute to Misha Mengelberg and Louis Andriessen featuring the ICP Orchestra and Heleen Hulst, among others.
Bouwhuis is announced for a concert at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam.
