Fairuz (born Nouhad Haddad, Beirut, 1934 or 1935) is a Lebanese singer widely regarded as one of the greatest voices in the history of Arabic music. From the 1950s onward she built an enormous repertoire of love songs, folk music and patriotic hymns in collaboration with the Rahbani Brothers, performing on every continent. With more than 1,500 recorded songs and over 150 million records sold, she ranks among the world's best-selling artists. She is considered a cultural symbol of Lebanon and has received honours from France (Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur) and the United Nations, among others.
