About

Dido and Aeneas is an opera by the English composer Henry Purcell, written around 1688. The libretto by Nahum Tate draws on Virgil's Aeneid, following the doomed love between the Carthaginian queen Dido and the Trojan hero Aeneas. Short but emotionally concentrated, the work is best known for Dido's lament "When I am laid in earth".
