About

DeVotchKa are an American quartet from Denver, Colorado, active since 1997, blending indie rock with Eastern European folk, flamenco, mariachi and dark cabaret. The four members - Nick Urata (vocals, guitar, theremin, bouzouki), Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion), Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone, double bass) and Shawn King (drums, trumpet) - command an unusually wide range of instruments that gives their sound a distinctly cinematic quality. They reached a broad audience with the Grammy-nominated Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack (2006), commissioned after directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris heard the band by chance on a Santa Monica radio station. Seven studio albums followed, the most recent being This Night Falls Forever (2018, Concord Records).
