Noord Nederlands Orkest: NNO x De Kast
The Noord Nederlands Orkest plays pop classics by De Kast in symphonic arrangements - a unique collaboration between orchestra and band.
De Kast is a Frisian pop group from Veenwouden, led by singer Syb van der Ploeg, founded in 1989. They broke through nationally in 1997 with 'In Nije Dei', the first Frisian-language single ever to chart in the Dutch Top 40, peaking at number two. At their peak in the late 1990s they sold over a million records and played sold-out arena shows. After a hiatus the original line-up reunited and continues to perform at special concerts and theatre tours.
De Kast celebrated its 35th anniversary on November 14, 2025 with a big show at the RTM Stage of Rotterdam Ahoy, in original line-up and with guest artists.
After the anniversary show in Rotterdam, the band toured the country for a theater tour through several Dutch cities.
The announcement of the anniversary concert in Ahoy was made in September 2024; singer Syb van der Ploeg called it special to stand there 'on their own strength'.
