Daniel Barenboim (Buenos Aires, 1942) is an Argentine-Israeli pianist and conductor whose career has spanned more than seven decades at the highest level of classical music. He served for many years as chief conductor of the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden and previously led the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and La Scala in Milan. In 1999 he co-founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra with Palestinian-American intellectual Edward Said, an ensemble that brings together young Israeli and Arab musicians and which he regards as his most important responsibility.
Barenboim announced on February 6, 2025 via social media that he has Parkinson's disease; he indicated that he wanted to continue fulfilling as many musical commitments as possible.
Barenboim conducted three concerts in October 2025 with the Berliner Philharmoniker in Berlin, with works by Weber, Schubert and Beethoven.
In November 2025 Barenboim conducted the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan, together with violinist Lisa Batiashvili, in a program with music by Beethoven.
Deutsche Grammophon released the digital 'Barenboim A-Z' series in February 2026: a complete library of his solo piano recordings on DG and Westminster.
In October 2024 Deutsche Grammophon released a new album on the occasion of the 60-year artistic partnership between Barenboim and the Berliner Philharmoniker.
