Bilal: Celebrating 25 Years of 1st Born Second
Grammy-winning R&B artist Bilal performs his landmark debut album '1st Born Second' in full, celebrating 25 years since its release.
Bilal Oliver is an American singer-songwriter from Philadelphia whose classically trained voice - capable of opera in seven languages - sets him apart in contemporary soul. His acclaimed debut '1st Born Second' (2001) established him as a key Soulquarian alongside J Dilla, Erykah Badu and The Roots, and he later won a Grammy as a featured artist on Kendrick Lamar's 'These Walls'. His solo work moves fluidly between neo-soul, jazz, psychedelic funk and afrofuturism.
Bilal released his sixth studio album 'Adjust Brightness' - his first album with new material in eight years.
'Adjust Brightness' was named by Vulture as the fourth best album of 2024.
Bilal released the live album 'Live at Glasshaus', a retrospective with Questlove, Common and Robert Glasper.
Billboard spoke with Bilal about 'Adjust Brightness', his new hobby of painting and the inspiration he gained during his stay in Morocco.
Bilal toured the US in support of 'Adjust Brightness', with performances in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston and Atlanta.
