James McMurtry - + support: BettySoo
James McMurtry brings Texas country-folk with melancholic songwriting to Groningen, supported by BettySoo.
BettySoo is a Korean-American singer-songwriter based in Austin, Texas, who grew up outside Houston as the daughter of first-generation Korean immigrants. Known for her clear, precise voice and sharply personal lyrics, she works across folk, Americana and country. Alongside her solo career she is a member of the Austin trio Nobody's Girl (with Rebecca Loebe and Grace Pettis) and has toured and recorded extensively with James McMurtry and Chris Smither. Her songwriting has earned her awards including the Kerrville New Folk Competition and the Mountain Stage NewSong prize.
BettySoo released her solo album 'If You Never Go Away' on July 18, 2025 - her first solo album in more than ten years, recorded in Austin and Memphis.
The album was produced by Will Sexton and recorded at Cedar Creek Studio (Austin) and Southern Grooves (Memphis).
Goldmine Magazine described 'If You Never Go Away' as her first solo release in more than a decade and mentioned the work in the same breath as Alison Krauss and Rosanne Cash.
BettySoo toured in spring 2026 as opening act for James McMurtry, including in South Burlington (VT) and Pawling (NY).
