About the venue

Vesting Bourtange is a fully restored star-shaped fortress town in the Groningen region of Westerwolde, originally built in 1593 on the orders of William of Orange. It guarded the only dry road between Germany and Groningen. Today the site functions as an open-air museum and hosts historical markets, re-enactments and seasonal events throughout the year.
