About the venue

The Onderduikersmuseum de Duikelaar in Nieuwlande tells the story of Jewish people who went into hiding in this small Drenthe village during the Second World War. Nieuwlande is the only village in the Netherlands whose entire population was collectively recognised by Yad Vashem for sheltering people in danger. The museum shows how ordinary villagers organised this on a remarkable scale.
