Museum De Proefkolonie in Frederiksoord tells the story of the Society of Benevolence, which founded a colony for urban poor here in 1818. The museum shows how residents of the free colonies lived and worked on the Drenthe heathlands. Frederiksoord is part of the Colonies of Benevolence UNESCO World Heritage Site.
