Peter Goedhart & Erik van der Kroft — Kleine Walhalla, Rotterdam

Peter Goedhart and Erik van der Kroft present a lyrical programme exploring romantic sensibility through music and poetry from southern Spain and France.

The heart of the programme centres on Federico García Lorca (1898-1936), the Spanish poet whose 'Romancero Gitano' stands as a monument to Spanish Romani culture - sketches from their community infused with beauty and darker forces. Greek composer and musician Mikis Theodorakis (1925-2021) set this work to music, bringing together two artists from different eras in something extraordinary. Alongside this comes the work of Léo Ferré (1916-1993): chansonnier, writer and composer, known for 'Paris Canaille', 'Avec le temps', 'La vie d'Artiste' and 'Saint Germain des Prés' - chansons that shift between charm, bitterness and drama.

Peter Goedhart is a singer, poet and writer specializing in romantic song repertoire and music theatre. He created the 'Watermuziek' programmes in collaboration with Luxor Theater, composing music, writing texts and translating works by Fernando Pessoa and Robert Louis Stevenson among others. These productions took place in warehouses, sheds, docks, shipyards and salt silos throughout Rotterdam's harbour district. Goedhart has also written several novels. Erik van der Kroft studied at Rotterdam Conservatoire and works as a pianist, arranger, composer and philosopher. He has written film scores and served as musical director for various theatre projects.

Goedhart and Van der Kroft have formed a steady partnership for over thirty years.
